The #moon though my charity shop telescope.
I really must collimate this.

Moonquakes Surprisingly Common
Apollo seismometer data from 1972-77 detected 62 moonquakes near the surface, some strong enough to shift furniture. Unlike #Earth's quakes, the #moon's stiff rock vibrates longer. Causes may include Earth's tidal gravity and heat. Future #lunar homes must be quake-resistant. Buzz Aldrin is shown with a seismometer in an image.

Explanation:
Why are there so many moonquakes? Analyses of seismometers left on the moon during the Apollo moon landings reveal a surprising number of moonquakes occurring within 100 kilometers of the surface. In fact, 62 moonquakes were detected in data recorded between 1972 and 1977. Many of these moonquakes are not only strong enough to move furniture in a lunar apartment, but the stiff rock of the moon continues to vibrate for many minutes, significantly longer than the softer rock earthquakes on Earth. The cause of the moonquakes remains unknown, but a leading hypothesis include tidal gravity from -- and relative heating by -- our Earth. Regardless of the source, future moon dwellings need to be built to withstand the frequent shakings. Pictured here, Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin stands beside a recently deployed lunar seismometer, looking back toward the lunar landing module.

I did this for most of the path and then overlaid these images on the Garriott map to compare the old and new paths. Here is the result. The old map looked good but it was offset from the true position. The most interesting observation is that the rover drove further than previously thought. It started further north and drove further south than the old map showed (left edge), and ended (far right) further north again. Then it got more interesting...

That's not even my last blunder concerning Lunokhod 2, but we'll come back to that. LRO began imaging in 2009 and by 2010 there were enough images of the landing area to map the rover tracks. Zoom all the way in and tracks are easy to see. Zoom out to the full image and they are invisible but you can see the larger craters. So I drew red lines over the tracks to make the path easy to see at any scale. This image covers the first lunar day.

SniffiVerse™ walkies Toot
Ello frens and fans of Arwen
We're back on another adventure and I may be wearing the wrong jacket. It's not too cold, but I didn't check the real feel, and with the wind, this jacket is a wee bit chilly. So let's hope Arwen will be on the move a bit more.
I rode the seated bike for half an hour. I wanted to use the massage chair, but one was taken and I'm not that comfortable to take the other one then... So I just headed home again.
I'm feeling a wee bit tired, so the walkies are a bit more challenging now. But I know they're good for both Arwen and me, so hey ho, let's do this.
I tried to get a shot of the moon, but with the wind and my sore arms, I was fortunate enough to get just one decent one. I slightly edited it and I'll share it in this Toot.
So, plans for today! Some relaxing when we get back. After the next walkies, when it gets light again, I'll see about doing some more weeding. I really want to finish the front garden for now... Also because I don't know how long I'll still be able to borrow the shovel. I do need go do the back garden as well, so maybe I'll need to check the stores to find a sturdy but also affordable shovel for myself.
I need to get to the store this morning. So after the nine o'clock walkies, I'll walk to the supermarket and get my few things. And then... Hopefully... I'll be able to relax with some gaming!
Busy morning for sure, but if all goes well, I should be able to relax after that.
Hope you're all having a good weekend (so far).
I'll catch you all later!
Three days after visiting Jupiter the #Moon is close to - much faded - Mars tonight. And Castor and Pollux (which it overwhelms for the naked eye).
