Allowance for idiocy: i) Systems can't be designed to be idiot-proof, at least not at any reasonable cost, because society continually develops better idiots. ii) Systems shouldn't be designed to be idiot-proof, because people do better work when they stay engaged in the process and because overly complex systems just get in the way. iii) Systems will never be idiot-proof as long as people are willing to spend time and money on writing and debugging business logic but can't be bothered to develop business process models or put instrumentation into the business environment.

The #NewMexico Governor's message, vetoing HB 120 on making state agencies accessible, says the veto is because her office is already accessible and she's sending out memos about #accessibility to other agencies, so the bill isn't needed.

Her office issued this veto message as an inaccessible PDF (you can't select the text, or read it with a screen reader) that's obviously a scan from a paper document.

You make men love their government and their country by giving them the kind of government and the kind of country that inspire respect and love; a country that is free and unafraid, that lets the discontented talk in order to learn the causes of their discontent and end those causes, that refuses to impel men to spy on their neighbors, that protects its citizens vigorously from harmful acts while it leaves the remedies for objectionable ideas to counterargument and time.

Cliff swallow nests by the well-known Chaco 1054 Supernova rock art panel. Chinese records indicate July 4 1054 as when this "guest star" appeared, when the moon was nearly at first quarter. This supernova created the Crab Nebula. Halley's Comet appeared in 1066. At the middle bottom are concentric circles and faint red pigment flowing to the right, plausibly a record of that comet's appearance.

Haven’t mentioned this before, but #NewMexico is trying really hard to be better for kids. I think that’s a great move, since I’ve been told the children are our future. The nice part is that this doesn’t depend on federal funds, so for now, it’s safe from the tangerine tyrant’s whims. theguardian.com/us-news/2025/a
