After a day of boating, you'd think it's OK to stop the engine right away. But sometimes it needs to keep running, to power electric devices that draw more than the boat's batteries and inverter can provide.
Some appliances draw a lot of electricity—a washing machine, iron, vacuum, toaster, microwave oven, electric chainsaw. I run these one at a time.

The boat's domestic batteries are aging and need a bit of relief once the sun sets. Solar panels don't work by starlight. 
The freezer has a couple of bottles of ice, to keep things chilled overnight, when the fridge dial gets adjusted from 2 to ½. One ice bottle moves to the fridge at night.
About once a week there's a forgotten thawing bottle of ice in the fridge all day instead of refreezing in the freezer.

Can anyone advise me on designing an off-grid hot shower? It will be for paying guests, so it should be instant and foolproof to use.
I'm currently thinking to base it on a propane shower unit, drawing water from a butt using a 12v DC pump. Has anyone set up something like this? I have questions!

Feeling super accomplished! Installed a new battery charger and it's working perfect.
Had a Mastervolt Powercharger 12/40-3 that stopped working correctly after Boatsgiving cruise last year. It would work intermittently and then fault. After asking a local servicer, it sounded like the solution was to replace. Bought a ProMariner ProNautic 1240P and it is excellent.
