The #US have struggled to reassure at home and abroad on #UAE promises to stop arm deliveries to the #RSF, while acknowledging their limited leverage in the matter.

Other conflicts triggered or worsened by the war include #UN Security Council penholder on the file, the #UK, likewise accused of sympathy to the position of the UAE, #Ethiopia, over the #Fashaga triangle and the #Nile, as well as #Uganda, which threatened to invade Khartoum through the voice of one of her generals.

Meanwhile #Ethiopia is quite occupied by rebellions in #Amhara and #Oromia and #Tigray-Amhara clashes over Tigray territories lost in the 2020–2022 war.

Amhara militias have also attempted, yet again, to invade the Al #Fashaga triangle, now under #SAF control. Both Ethiopia and #Sudan are unwilling to compromise on the issue.

The perspective of a #RSF-#Fano or a RSF-#TPLF alliance is worrisome to Addis Ababa. Eritrean support to SAF-aligned militias also spells trouble in the midterm

At the onset of the current war in #Sudan (April 2023) another attempt was made by #Amhara militias to push back the #SAF. In vain — although it again took several months for the SAF to regain control of the territory.

The Sudan Tribune reports Amhara militias have again invaded and penetrated some 15km inside the Al #Fashaga triangle, as of yesterday. This coincides with #RSF raids within #Sennar state, some distance behind SAF lines.

#Ethiopia

In early 2021, Ethiopian PM Abyi Ahmed has denounced the 1902 treaty and claimed the Al #Fashaga region. #Amhara regional forces and militias, alongside elements of the federal #ENDF, have attempted an invasion from March 2021. They had been routed in the summer.

Since then, and despite Emirati and South Sudanese mediation attempts, tensions remained high and border skirmishes prevalent.

Renewed #Ethiopia-#Sudan conflict over the Al #Fashaga triangle, #SAF flanked in #Sennar

One of the several disputed border areas of Sudan, the 250 sq. km Al Fashaga triangle has been formally ceded by Ethiopia to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan in 1902. Since then, #Amhara and Tigrayan farmers have cultivated alongside the Sudanese the fertile land situated between the Atbara and Tekeze rivers and the international border line, a compromise formalized in 2008.
