TIL about the Munich conference. British PM Chamberlain agreed to cede a portion of Czechoslovakia in return for Hitler's guarantee that he had no further territorial ambitions. On his return, he famously declared "Peace for our time". Five months later, Hitler invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia.
