TIL theft is so rare in Japan that people often use wallets, purses, laptops or phones to save their seats in cafes and public places, leaving them unattended while they go buy food or go to the bathroom.

Canada used to be like that. Not anymore.
@todayilearned Wouldn't it be nice if that were true everywhere. I've heard little kids are allowed t go out alone too on the subway and stuff. I've heard Japan's one ofthe safest countries.
