Swede’s Photographs<p>Flight of the Scavenger</p><p>This is an easy spot—vultures are always around somewhere, whether turkey vultures or black vultures. I've mentioned before that they inhabit the forest behind my house. This turkey vulture (Cathartes aura) happened to fly directly overhead while Charlie and I were relaxing under the pergola this morning. When he's being an exceptionally good boy, Charlie stays still by my chair as I watch and photograph the backyard birds. At times, it feels like a full aviary back there. Swede’s Photographs<p>Good morning. 🍂🍃🍂</p><p>13 April 2025</p><p>Ben is barking—it’s almost mealtime. Meanwhile, Charlie is staring at me with his tail wagging enthusiastically. I could feed them early, but rules are rules. I’ve only been awake for about 20 minutes, and as usual, I’m trying to put my thoughts into writing. After only 20 minutes of being awake, my mind feels pretty empty. Lately, I’ve been considering buying a second EGO 5Ah battery. There’s the BA2800 and the BA2800T—the latter costs about $100 more than the former. Essentially, the choice boils down to spending $200 or $300, but there must be more to it than just the price. While I often spot them at my bird feeders enjoying seeds, they are also known to feed on insects. Swede’s Photographs<p>Good morning. 😴⏰☕</p><p>12 April 2025</p><p>Back in the late '60s and early '70s, the eight-track tape was king. I mounted a player under the dash of my old '50 Chevy pickup truck. For some reason, I also added a tachometer to the steering column—not because I needed one, but simply because I thought it looked cool. Anyway, back on track to the eight-track. I had albums by Steppenwolf, the Eagles, Chicago, and more. It wasn't long, though, before the eight-track faded away, replaced by the cassette player, which itself was eventually overtaken by the compact disc (CD). CDs are still around today but are quickly disappearing, giving way to technologies like MP3s. Nowadays, I usually purchase digital downloads and load them onto a memory stick to plug into my devices and my car that has a USB port.</p><p>"Any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to magic." – Arthur C. When I went in this morning to check the mirror, the door began to close on its own. It stopped before fully shutting, sparing me from being trapped in the room with some mysterious and sinister entity. In reality, I suspect the explanation lies in a doorway that is slightly askew. Scenes like this are often featured in scary movies, where the human occupant trapped in the room is typically a young woman. Yet, I can't help but wonder—when I turned away from the mirror, did my reflection move with me, or did it remain frozen, silently watching as I pondered the door?</p><p> “Come and play with us, Danny. I plan to remove it when winter returns—or perhaps sooner if a hurricane decides to make its way here this season. I’m feeling pretty proud of myself for crossing off two items from my ever-growing 'do tomorrow' list. Spring is such a wonderful time of year and my absolute favorite—it’s not too cold, not too hot. If it were a bed, it’d be the one Baby Bear finds just right. The grass is green and thriving, butterflies flutter about, and flowers are in full bloom. I can sit here at my desk and effortlessly toss a piece of paper into my wastepaper basket—and I usually make it in. Did I play basketball, you ask? Well, I did as a child, but my skills were never refined enough to leave even the smallest mark on the sport. My granddaughter, on the other hand, plays on her college team as a three-point specialist. Swede’s Photographs<p>Art of Flight</p><p>I captured this image of a neotropic cormorant (Nannopterum brasilianum) while crossing the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Louisiana. The bird was passing the ferry at just the right moment, allowing me to take some quality photographs.</p><p>The photographs I share here don’t appear as vivid as they do in my Pixel’s gallery. To make them load more easily, I reduce their size and slightly lower their quality.
