The long shot of long shots, but worth a try. I’m forever the optimist! I don’t suppose anyone’s come across an original 78rpm record sleeve from 1945 like this one have they? I’ll pay if any are still out there. As far as I know it’s American, as the British versions had completely different sleeves.
Thank you, and I’m crossing my fingers!
@AGT I have not. But I love that song, which I first heard, iirc, in “The Benny Goodman Story” (obvs, played by Benny Goodman, not Harry James)
@mjibrower Hi Molly. We love it too! My mum’s 89, and we have a fabulous collection of original (and pretty iconic) 78rpm records from WW2 that we frequently listen to. We also have a near mint portable gramophone from 1935 to play them on. They sound so good you wouldn’t believe it, and I’m after some of the original sleeves to keep the 78’s in. We have “It’s Been a Long Long Time” by Harry James, and many others I’m sure you’d love!
@AGT How wonderful to have a vintage gramophone to play them on!! Good luck finding your sleeves. My mother had a couple of actual *albums* of 78s--folders with sleeves to keep your records in. :-)
