I don't have Bing configured as my default search engine, I don't even have Bing configured as a search engine in #Firefox, and yet here it is after the latest update.

Is this another of #Mozilla user hostile decisions?

Replied to Jan Penfrat

Wow so the #Mozilla engineer disagrees and claims "#GDPR has done a great deal of harm" (I didn't understand his argument why) but now diverted to saying the #browser should be the platform collect all the personal data and then provide it in aggregated form to advertisers.

This would "give control to people while also unlocking the data". 🥱

And all in a sudden, #SurveillanceAdvertising is not a #humanrights issue any more but merely a question of "governance".

Stop legitimising Mozilla.

They’re sucking all the oxygen out of the room.

“We’re just another Silicon Valley tech company.” – their then head of public policy to me

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” – Maya Angelou

(Or in this case the second, third, fourth… what are we on? I’ve lost count.)

@ryanleesipes can you raise a serious proposal with the board towards changing the legal name, even something simple like Thunderbird Technologies, like whatever.

Once Mozilla and Firefox were an asset to be associated with, I fear that Firefox and Mozilla are both very much tanking in 2025 with their decision to start selling out on user data.

I’ve always loved Firefox and been a strong advocate but the recent changes cut deep, we all know too well the odor that enshitification gives off when companies start to sell out on their users.

#browser market share 2024/25:

This is serious! #chrome is taking over the internet like #microsoft did the same about 30 years ago with the Internet Explorer.

Thanks to the world wide success of the #apple #iphone and #ipad the #safari browser comes second. The rest is dust. Including #mozilla #firefox.

With #google Chrome winning the browser race they can dictate web techlologies. Keep in mind, that Google is an advertising company in the first place ...

This new Firefox feature, can provide an AI summary of unvisited links on demand. It's worth noting that unlike Mozilla's Orbit add-on, this runs completely client side, requiring no server communication for it's AI wizardry.

Enable the feature, then Shift+Alt and hover over a link, and a pop-up/tooltip will appear, and generate a brief bullet-point summary of what's beyond the link.

#Mozilla changed hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozill to use 302 redirect:

< HTTP/2 302
< content-type: text/html
< date: Tue, 08 Apr 2025 08:13:36 GMT
< location: hg-edge.mozilla.org/releases/m
< access-control-allow-origin: *
< content-length: 0

This could lead to some failure to update the certificate data with tools that don't handle redirect correctly. These tools will fail to fetch the new certdata.txt now.
