The Trump admin’s🚨crimes against humanity should be investigated as soon as a Democratic admin is in power. Please continue to speak out & #resist their💔abuse & atrocities. Read this account of an undocumented immigrant who was held at GITMO.

The men who were falsely locked up in the torture dungeon in El Salvador should be able to bankrupt them, & a special counsel prosecute & eventually imprison Trump, Homan, Rubio, Noem, Miller… +those who’re complicit.

Cook is tackling the situation boldly...

“You just gotta put your money where your mouth is and you gotta live by your conscience,” she says, “and you gotta know that your livelihood cannot overpower your conscience.”

..."They can rally and protest all they want, but I'm not gonna be bullied. I'm not gonna be intimidated,” #Homan told the local #news... Meanwhile, Sackets Harbor 10th graders leave flowers on their jailed classmate’s desk in hopes of a safe return."

"Cook has spent the past 10 days worried sick about her #students in the 3rd, 10th and 11th grades at her #school. Saturday morning she posted a statement on #Facebook...

"We are in direct communication with our students. Let me be clear: they are not “being medically evaluated.” They are not being “questioned as potential victims.” Calling a detention center by another name does not change what it is.""

"The town of 1,300 people [of whom apx 1000 protested] has just one school for all children K-12... It’s an affluent and idyllic-looking town on the shores of Lake Ontario in a county that voted 61% for #Trump in 2024. And when #protesters marched down the streets in solidarity with their stolen neighbors, they made sure to pass by the home of one community member in particular: #TomHoman, Trump’s Border Czar."

" #HandsOff a #protest in the tiny town of Sackets Harbor, NY...

A worker on a local dairy farm who had no criminal record and was awaiting legal #immigration proceedings was disappeared late last month by #ICE along with her 3 children... whisked away to #Texas. And around 1,000 people came together this weekend to rally for their safe return and to send a message that this won’t be tolerated there—or anywhere."

Why protesting is important - Chenoweth

I keep seeing posts saying things like "Why bother? What do you think you're even accomplishing by protesting?" or otherwise attempting to discourage us.

Whether those people are actively trying to suppress us for political reasons, or just being negative thinkers, we should not let them discourage us, because the evidence is in our favor!

For starters, Read this 2019 BBC article about the research of Erica Chenoweth:
bbc.com/future/article/2019051

> "Looking at hundreds of campaigns over the last century, Chenoweth found that nonviolent campaigns are twice as likely to achieve their goals as violent campaigns. And although the exact dynamics will depend on many factors, she has shown it takes around 3.5% of the population actively participating in the protests to ensure serious political change."

The last turnout estimate I saw for the #HandsOff #protests yesterday was over 5 million. IDK if that's correct but if so, that's already about 1.5% of the US population, and it's just beginning.

But just reaching 3.5% participation is not necessarily enough (see next post in thread). Read Chenoweth's recent paper here, addressing other important factors to consider:

The next National Day of Action is reportedly #April19 (I can’t find official confirmation of that date yet, please share if you do!). The goal is for 3.5% of the population to join in, so let’s make the next one even bigger!!

Curious why 3.5%? More info here: bbc.com/future/article/2019051

Thousands were at the #HandsOff protest in #Nashville , #Tennessee which is also known as the buckle of the #BibleBelt in ‘God’s Country’ #USA. newschannel5.com/news/hands-of

No word if Morgan Wallen was in the crowd, nor if he’s even set foot in #MusicCity after he was arrested on reckless endangerment charges for throwing a chair from the rooftop of a six-story bar on Lower Broadway.
