I keep seeing posts saying things like "Why bother? What do you think you're even accomplishing by protesting?" or otherwise attempting to discourage us.
Whether those people are actively trying to suppress us for political reasons, or just being negative thinkers, we should not let them discourage us, because the evidence is in our favor!
For starters, Read this 2019 BBC article about the research of Erica Chenoweth:
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190513-it-only-takes-35-of-people-to-change-the-world
> "Looking at hundreds of campaigns over the last century, Chenoweth found that nonviolent campaigns are twice as likely to achieve their goals as violent campaigns. And although the exact dynamics will depend on many factors, she has shown it takes around 3.5% of the population actively participating in the protests to ensure serious political change."
The last turnout estimate I saw for the #HandsOff #protests yesterday was over 5 million. IDK if that's correct but if so, that's already about 1.5% of the US population, and it's just beginning.
But just reaching 3.5% participation is not necessarily enough (see next post in thread). Read Chenoweth's recent paper here, addressing other important factors to consider:
