The FBI produced this nice chart comparing what kinds of privacy leaks the various messaging apps have.

Fedizens, great news!
Your help is vital!
Do you follow someone on Mastodon who does great posts but not-so-great boosts? Or maybe they boost too much?
You can mute just their boosts if you like:
1. Go to their profile
2. Click on "..."
3. Select "Hide boosts from"
This will not affect their own posts, which you will see as normal.
P.S. If you're new here, boosts are the equivalent of retweets or shares 🔁
Related, an interesting article about how Zenrin does their local surveys
https://www.zenrin.co.jp/product/article/chiteki-191126/index.html (in japanese)
Public geospatial data for some Japan areas https://www.gsi.go.jp/kihonjohochousa/chimeijoho.html (in japanese)
I'm planning to use it for surveys to improve #openstreetmap data in #japan .
Unfortunately, not all areas are available (for free).
The commercial maps from Zenrin are expensive and probably cannot be directly inputted to #osm anyway.
Are You still looking for a #WeekendProject? What about implementing pinning repositories in #Gitea sa requested here https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Community/issues/193 and here https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/issues/10375
Thank you 💙
If programmers, developers, computer scientists or whatever you want to call them are "engineers" at all, they are social engineers and they most directly influence society's structure as they shape its information universe
This is very distinct from "real world" engineers that ply their trade on the "biosphere minus humans". Real engineers also shape society, but indirectly, through the nature and use of these artifacts
Keep that in mind (while you can)
It's been exactly one year since FediTips began! 🎂
Do you have any particular Fediverse-related topics you want more info about? Any requests?
Let me know by replying below...
In the meantime, let's enjoy this avant garde synth birthday song (and no, this isn't me and it wasn't made for FediTips, but it's on the Fediverse so that's a good enough reason to share it!):
🇫🇷 Simultaneous translation from French to English will be available.
📣 Last announcement for a while, and one I'm personally quite excited about: there's a Rust library in development to work with the decentralized identity verification ecosystem! 🎉
Not used in a project just yet but will be when it matures!
You could be of tremendous help by looking at the (still small) source code and pointing out bugs and bad code! PRs are welcome :)
Microsoft anticompetitive behaviors are back, this time changing HTTPS URLs to microsoft-edge:// URIs to force open the link in Edge.
Brave has already added support for the microsoft-edge:// URI, and Firefox support is coming.
What does *really good* look like for the future of #foss ?

machine learning we control
collective evaluation of nodes / behavior
healthy economy for developers
built-in support for local economies
frugal with computing resources
beautiful, in the way only honest things are beautiful
the digital future we deserve(TM)
