Fedizens, great news!

The #FedeProxy project which allows code #forges to interoperate on the #Fediverse is selected for the 2nd phase of the #NGI DAPSI program. The project has rebranded to forgefriends.org

#Forgefriends is both Community and #FOSS project on an important mission: To unite coders online, and make stronger bonds in the #FreeSoftware world and to the benefit of the #Commons.

@gitea is first in adding #federation code. They're your forge friend!

Your help is vital!

Do you follow someone on Mastodon who does great posts but not-so-great boosts? Or maybe they boost too much?

You can mute just their boosts if you like:

1. Go to their profile
2. Click on "..."
3. Select "Hide boosts from"

This will not affect their own posts, which you will see as normal.

P.S. If you're new here, boosts are the equivalent of retweets or shares 🔁

Do you want to make apps using the #Solid protocol, but don't know where to start? This Wednesday I'm going to present a Hello World I've been working on, that just uses plain JavaScript and HTML (no frameworks!). Come and join the conversation! chat.0data.app/t/zero-data-swa

Related, an interesting article about how Zenrin does their local surveys

Public geospatial data for some Japan areas gsi.go.jp/kihonjohochousa/chim (in japanese)

I'm planning to use it for surveys to improve data in .
Unfortunately, not all areas are available (for free).
The commercial maps from Zenrin are expensive and probably cannot be directly inputted to anyway.

If programmers, developers, computer scientists or whatever you want to call them are "engineers" at all, they are social engineers and they most directly influence society's structure as they shape its information universe

This is very distinct from "real world" engineers that ply their trade on the "biosphere minus humans". Real engineers also shape society, but indirectly, through the nature and use of these artifacts

Keep that in mind (while you can)

It's been exactly one year since FediTips began! :blobcatbirthday: 🎂

Do you have any particular Fediverse-related topics you want more info about? Any requests?

Let me know by replying below...

In the meantime, let's enjoy this avant garde synth birthday song (and no, this isn't me and it wasn't made for FediTips, but it's on the Fediverse so that's a good enough reason to share it!):

📣 Last announcement for a while, and one I'm personally quite excited about: there's a Rust library in development to work with the decentralized identity verification ecosystem! 🎉

Not used in a project just yet but will be when it matures!

Blog post: blog.keyoxide.org/doip-rust/
Repo: codeberg.org/keyoxide/doip-rs

You could be of tremendous help by looking at the (still small) source code and pointing out bugs and bad code! PRs are welcome :)

Microsoft anticompetitive behaviors are back, this time changing HTTPS URLs to microsoft-edge:// URIs to force open the link in Edge.

Brave has already added support for the microsoft-edge:// URI, and Firefox support is coming.
