Feels good to update an old tutorial from 2016 when you discover an issue six years later.
My instructions for restoring single partitions from backups on Android devices via adb should now work for larger partitions as well:
Release 0.6.6 of Biktor's excellent alternative pinephone modem firmware is out: https://github.com/Biktorgj/pinephone_modem_sdk/releases/tag/0.6.6
The EU Commission is planning automatic CSAM scanning of your private communication – or total surveillance in the name of child protection. This would be the worst surveillance apparatus outside of China:
You know the amazing https://mobile.twitter.com/biktorgj who singlehandedly created a nearly-FOSS userland modem firmware for the #pinephone and #pinephonepro ? He supports the community, is incredibly stubborn, err, persistent, in the face of a weird modem and regularly improves the firmware. You can even tell your phone modem to remind you to buy milk now via SMS. He likes coffee and we think he deserves some as a token of gratitude 😍! Pour him one ☕ https://ko-fi.com/biktorgj
A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
Where is the @gnome Foundation even going?
I wrote this post to shed some light on a programme the Foundation wants to conduct, how it will impact the GNOME Project, and how the contributors can help shaping it.
why on earth would nextcloud paywall the explanation of how their server-side encryption works??
"It's OK to not be passionate about your job"
Did you know that one of the ways Android and IOS reduce energy consumption is by using a unified system-level notification provider?
UnifiedPush is FOSS implementation of the same idea that could help projects such as #pinephone and #linuxphones in general by providing both a framework to reduce battery consumption and a more unified interface to code notifications on.
If you follow FOSS, would you please boost?
Full disk encryption has been available in postmarketOS since day one. @martijnbraam wrote a post explaining why it's important to have a different master key in every install, and how we do it with the on-device installer.
My search for a mobile FLOSS operating system
We are upstreaming our software development for the wider community. Calls will become a part of the @gnome project. Having a dialer application available shows that mobile is an important use case for GNOME. Read more: https://puri.sm/posts/how-calls-became-a-part-of-gnome/
He's not employed to do this, but donates hundreds of his own personal hours helping to get the hardware working, increase battery life (over and over) and generally make a huge amount of the smartphone progress we've seen, happen.
I'm personally extremely grateful and encourage everyone to donate at the bottom of his page here:
