Landed a part time as a IT worker for a company that doesn't have a IT team. I spent the first day installing an asset manager called SnipeIT and getting everyone to run a Spiceworks device agent. SnipeIT contains all the monitors and computers with their mac addresses recorded, while Spiceworks has more detailed system information (including software installations!!). They work beautifully together.

Now I have to get 200+ monitors/computers tagged for the rest of my time here.

I've been compiling Firefox on Gentoo for the past 3.5 hours now. Talk about anti-productive....

I think I'll stick with Macbooks as my portable workstation.

Sure, having fast compute speeds and beefing up components are nice and all, but I carry around a laptop instead of a desktop for a reason. Amazing battery life and portability are exactly what I need.
