Really curious that Signal uses the "WhatsApp/2" user agent for the link previews.

Seems to be in order to hide that it is coming from the Signal client.

However, WhatsApp sends their whole version number (eg: WhatsApp/2.2119.6) for their link previews.

So it is very easy to guess that anytime you see only WhatsApp/2 it is coming from Signal.

If it involves a couple of hacky tricks, I don't care if your code solves the problem 6% faster.

Hardware scales and will improve over time. The human capacity of understanding and maintaining code does not.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking:

clean code > performance.

My personal #mastodon experience still suffers from crossposts from #twitter, with user names that don't make sense in the #fediverse.

I can unfollow crossposter's accounts, but I don't want to unfollow everyone who boosts a twitter crosspost.

Please, #fediverse, let's boost the fediverse, not twitter. If we want to share a good tweet, let's treat it like any other URL from the web.

Did a quick article explaining how to use Curl to extract the timing information for the HTTP requests (total time, time to first byte, etc).

And use that as an example to compare the performance of 4 different CDNs: CloudFlare, Fastly, NOC.org and Sucuri:

Passport picture scam?

For the past few days, I am getting quite a few emails from random people with the subject "here is my passport picture" (or similar wording) with a passport picture attached.

It is happening enough that got me concerned.

Anyone knows what this is about?

Do you know the difference between a Registrar, a Registry, a Recursive DNS and an authoritative DNS?

After you are done reading, you will know. 😂

I'm constantly spinning up web servers... needless to say, I'm always doing it manually.. yeah yeah.. I know..

Any way, decided it'd be a good time to automate, and figured I might as well release my first free stuff..

This is for those with a VPS:

Scripts will:
- Configure LAMP using Apache
- Quickly configure WordPress for your domain (including DB creation, and WP-Configure updating)

It requires minimal input from user - domain name only
