An unpopular opinion but he's right for all the reasons stated in the video below. Unfortunately for Ukraine there are no spare new or old.

The is on the verge of buying 14 because the alternative () is simply too expensive. So by default, the may be making the right choice 😊

The right fighter for isn't the , it's the

@Norobiik I think there are up to 24 older models of JAS Gripen 39 (A/B) that are waiting for destruction, those could maybe been possible to provide to Ukraine.

At this point I think F16 will be a better option even if the flying almost costs 1600 USD more par hour than JAS.

As Ukraine aspire to be NATO member, I think they will be looking more at US fighters in the future unless France can provide a large fleet to Ukraine.

@aho Thank you, I wasn't aware of this. Sweden may be playing it safe for now by not offering the fighter jets you mentioned. SAAB and Lockheed Martin have locked horns many times before in fighter jet acquisition competitions but this is one Sweden may not want to "win".

They’re banking on the US to put pressure on Turkey to approve their NATO application - Turkey badly wants the F16s it bought but haven't received yet. Biden made it clear that removing their veto would help.

@Norobiik the most odd thing here I think is that Sweden has said it could be prepared to train pilots, but they wouldn't be able to train them on F16 as they don't have any, which leads to that they maybe would give away those plains, but I'm not sure in what condition they are and how long time it would take to make them useful.

It can be that the politicians are of one mind and the air force of another one in the same way as Finland is divided about the F18.

"It can be that the politicians are of one mind and the air force of another one in the same way as Finland is divided about the F18."

You can say that again, one of the reasons why our MRF (multirole fighter) program was so delayed was the internal fight between the government (Gripen) & the air force (F16) over which plane to get. If Covid hadn’t happened there may have been enough funds to get the F16. Lockheed Martin has a lot of clout though they started pushing late in the game.
